Hello everyone~
I’m Chani who hasn’t been motivated by rain lately! Especially when the rainy season sets in, don’t you feel like don’t want to do anything like studying English and blogging(T . T). I personally like rain, but I want to see the sun and the blue sky(^^)
This time’s article is not an academic video, but rather a light miscellaneous subject! Have you ever seen anything like floters in your eyes after you have used your eyes or seen the blue sky? That is a phenomenon known scientifically as myodesopsia. In this article, as a miscellaneous study, I will explain the cause and mechanism of its occurrence.
So we are going to learn English from Michael Mauser’s presentation with the title “What are these floaty things in your eye” from TED!

- Summary
- the identity of floating objects moving around : In scientific terms, it is called Muscae volitantes, and in Latin it means flying flies. They are masses of red blood cells or proteins that shadow the retina in eyes.
- When can we see the floating object : Often seen when looking at a consistently bright surface. because the consistency of the background is clearer than floating matter. The light from the outside world projects Muscae volitans onto eyes.
- Visual phenomenon caused by other floaters : This is called blue field entoptic phenomenon, unlike Muscae volitantes, which does not see a shadow projection.
- When do we see the light spot : small moving windows allows light to pass through the retina. Both white blood cells and the plasma portion transmit more blue light than red blood cells in the capillaries, so when this happens, you can see a point of light moving. These phenomena vary in number and type from person to person, and are usually not noticed by brain interference.
- when there is abnormal floating objects : abnormally large number of suspended objects that obstruct the field of vision indicates serious condition and require immediate treatment.

the identity of floating objects moving around
I think we’ve had one strange experience of floating things swimming in our eyes. The floating material is called Muscae volitantes in the scientific world, and in Latin it means flying flies.
It was not bugs or an external substance, it existed in our eyes.
And the floaters are a mass of red blood cells or proteins that shadow retina. They also float in vitreous fluids. So when the eyes move, the floating objects drift, and when they move, they start to bounce.
retina = a membrane in the back of the eyeball that senses the stimulus of light from the outside world and is responsible for transmitting it to the visual center of the cerebral cortex
erythrocyte = one of the constituents of blood that carries oxygen to each tissue in the body and acts as an exchange for carbon dioxide gas
vitreous fluid = gelatinous fluid that fills the eye
When can we see the floating object?
These floats often appear when you look at the screen of an unseen computer or at a consistent bright surface, such as snow or a clear blue sky. This is because the consistency of the background makes the floating matter more distinct.
The brighter the light, the smaller the pupil, which has the same effect as replacing a large, widened light source with a single light source, creating a distinct shadow. This shadow projects light onto the eyes when it is stimulated by the outside world.
Visual phenomenon caused by other floaters
You may have seen small dots of light move quickly when you see the bright blue sky. This phenomenon is called “blue field entoptic phenomenon” in scientific terms. This phenomenon is different from Muscae volitantes described above and does not see a shadow projection.
When do we see the light spot?
Small moving windows can be seen by passing light through the retina. The window is made of white blood cells that move through capillaries on the surface of the retina. When white blood cells are large enough to fill the capillaries, there is space in front of the white blood cells to contain only plasma as long as the white blood cells are large enough to fill the capillaries. Because both white blood cells and this part of the plasma transmit more blue light than red blood cells in the capillaries, this phenomenon shows a point of moving light. This point also moves in the same rhythm as the pulse along the capillary flow.
However, these phenomena vary in number and type from person to person, and in most cases, brain ignores these floating objects, so they are not noticed.
white blood cells = one of the constituents of blood that is larger than red blood cells and that acts as a phagocytosis to digest and decompose bacteria and outer substances that enter the body
capillaries = extremely thin blood vessels that extend in a reticulated fashion throughout the body
plasma = a liquid component from which blood cells, platelets, etc.which are removed
When there is abnormal floating objects
Unusually large number or large floating objects that interfere with the field of vision indicate severe condition and should be treated immediately. But in most cases these phenomenon quietly teaches that what we believe to be actually looking at is not external, but biological causes and our minds.

In the end
When I wake up in the morning or use eyes so long time and look up at the sky, I could see something like bugs, and I was curious about it all the time, but the explanatory video was in English, so I could learn English and the knowlege at the same time. ^ω^)
Knowing is really important, isn’t it? We are afraid and wary of what we don’t know. Isn’t this very scary thing? This negative emotion from ignorance makes people skeptical and even war-causing.
I feel that we have to make efforts, not just having will to try to know something. It’s not scary if we know. Knowledges, cultures, and the history and language of the country are also same. I personally believe that peace and quietness can only be achieved when mutual understanding is made, such as knowing, understanding each other and walking together.
It’s getting big story, but I’d appreciate it if we could make an effort and attitude to know something m(_ _)m
Bye bye (@^^)/~~~
